We are the evidence. Life can happen. It’s been proven. If it’s happening here, it’s crazy to think we are somehow special and it’s not happening somewhere else out there.

dgbbad@lemmy.zipto Games@lemmy.world•Is anyone else playing Avowed? What are your thoughts so far?English111·3 months agoI’m liking it. I’m big on exploration, and I hate when games have difficult but reachable places, but when you get there, there’s nothing. That is not the case with Avowed. Just about every hard to reach place I’ve managed to BS my way to has had something. It’s usually just money and some mats, but occasionally I’ve found some unique equipment or accessories.
Combat is just a slightly better Skyrim combat but with a dodge. I will say the dodge has fucked me multiple times because it’s just the jump button, but if you press any direction other than forward when you press it, you dodge in that direction. So no jumping sideways or backwards. I’ve accidentally dashed to my death off a cliff more than a few times.
I personally don’t think the story and characters are as bad as everyone is saying, but I’m easy to please. It doesn’t seem any worse than Skyrim story-wise. I like that the companions actually have personalities and banter with each other. They feel more like Dragon Age or Mass Effect companions, granted not nearly as deep. But I’ve already laughed several times from their ambient camp banter, and I only have two companions and less than 15 hours of play time.
The beginning tutorial area is weak, and character creation wasn’t very good. I honestly expected to quit after my first short 2ish hour session, but when I finally got set loose in the first real area and started exploring and climbing around on rooftops and finding underwater caves, and finding loot left and right, I got hooked.
I’m sitting on the ivory coast, eating vermillion snapper. War is all I think about.
This right here. Only downside is I have gotten distracted and forgot to go get my food without the beeping to summon me, but overall it’s definitely been a net positive.
I came to say this. Holy hell it’s brutal.

The grind at max level is just too strong to keep my interest. He, however, got into the ffxi horizon fan server that’s pretty much exactly like original XI, but with some QOL additions and an added hardcore mode. He got summoner to level 75 in hardcore mode and died like 2 days later. You don’t lose your character, but there are some cool items you get from hitting certain level milestones that you do lose. One of which was a ring with a teleport spell on it that had unlimited charges and only like a 20 minute cool down that you get st 75. It also does a server wide announcement when a hardcore character that high dies, so everyone was messaging him. He got super bummed and quit.
dgbbad@lemmy.zipto Games@lemmy.world•What's the greatest joy you have gotten from a video game?English6·5 months agoMe and my cousin played FFXI starting in the beta. I got the game for free at official launch and we played for a long time. But the greatest moment of gaming excitement is when we got the peacock charm drop from a super rare NM. I’m pretty sure it was the rarest, most valuable item in the game at the time. The NM was deep in a maze, and had a huge spawn window. I think it was something like an IRL week or something, and even if you managed to tag it from the countless other players camping it, you still had a very low chance of the drop.
I spent the night at my cousins one weekend and we went to bed one night after camping it for hours and left our characters logged in at the spawn point so we could check the combat logs to see if anyone got it while we were asleep. When I woke up, it had not spawned, but my cousin had already got up and left the cave. I was surprisingly alone in that room for the first time ever. No other players. After about 30 minutes, it spawns. I’m alone, and not strong enough to kill it by myself. My cousin somehow managed to make it from Jueno to the maze (like at least a 10 minute run) before anyone else showed up, and we got the kill and the drop.
We were literally screaming and high fiving so hard that his step mom thought we had won the lottery or something.
We both put it on at least once just to say we had, and sold it for more money than we’d ever imagined. We then bought the best gear for our characters and felt like gods.
Never even made it to max level, but holy crap nothing has ever come close to that level of excitement in or out of a game.

NO I WILL NOT MAKE OUT WITH YOU!
You could back a PSP so easily and play so many non PSP games it’s crazy. It was by far the best. Except later I think you could do the same thing with the Vita and it was a flat upgrade all around sooooo
“Putties!” was my first thought as well.
From what I understand, nothing. There isn’t anything harmful about them unless you ingest enough to choke or cause blockages.

I love the Lunar SSS intro, but I’m still partial to the OG Sega CD intro. It gets me pumped up to this day.
While 4 is my all time favorite FF, I gotta give the best main menu theme to 9.
Ciri is a Witcher. The Witcher isn’t missing at all.
