A lot of good older games had gameplay explained through play, but it wasn’t as common as it is now for the reasons you stated. Other people had to catch on and then learn how to implement the better design.
And there are still plenty of games that do a terrible job of explaining how they work or have complex mechanics with no apparent way of conveying it to players.


Being a rehash/continuation of the same game was the case since Overwatch 2 came out as they dropped the PvE plans, so it wouldn’t be news.

Discord has made communicating with a small group of friends who moved to different cities stay in touch daily while playing games, chatting in voice, and streaming stuff to share. Voice and text are great, but the streaming is how we share the in game moments we used to be able to see in person.
