The worst part is: everything that has happened over the course of his presidency has been so absurdly beyond parody that I almost didn’t notice that this was lemmyshitpost.

News@lemmy.world•Epstein claimed that Donald Trump ‘knew about the girls’ in private emails
12·1 month agoIt’s not about them seeing it, it’s about venting frustration, and as left-leaning as Lemmy is it should be a safe place for them to do so.
This is also a great way to handle it; malicious compliance/monkey paw. Makes for some humorous moments.
And yeah, if a player is constantly having to be told no, a talk may need to be had, and if it can’t be resolved, they probably need to go. It’s also a reason why Session 0’s are so important; talking out what’s expected of the campaign both on the part of the players and what the GM has in mind.
I 90% agree. I think most of the opposition to this comes from people exhausted with habitual boundary-pushers who think that a nat 20 means they can get away with defying the laws of reality.
Like, no, a nat20 persuasion does not convince the merchant to give you half his stock and all the money in the register… He would go broke and he’s got a family to support, along with his own survival that your nat20 does not also convince him to stop caring about.
But at the end of the day, a lot of GMs who are sick of that need to be sent the dictionary page for the word “no.” The occasional use of it really does improve the quality of the game, and I’m sure plenty of players will appreciate not letting aforementioned boundry pushers continue to waste time on impossible pursuits that do nothing to move the game forward.
I’ve never played Rimworld, so I don’t know the modding situation on it.
I attempted to mod Skyrim, and as far as I can tell, it’s not that the mods don’t work, it’s that the primary mod manager Nexus is currently using (Vortex) is kind of a pain in the ass to set up on Linux. They are currently working on a new mod manager that should be natively compatible and should resolve that issue.
But for every other game I’ve ever modded on Linux it works exactly the same as it does on Windows.
Truthfully, outside of the handful of games that don’t want me playing them because of my OS, 90% of my games work exactly the same, if not better. The remaining 10% might require a little tinkering to get running, or have some weird hiccup (having to run it in Proton instead of native because for some reason they’re “different versions” thus menaing I can only play with friends on Windows in the Proton version), but I honestly couldn’t be happier.
It feels like I’m playing on my computer again, not Microsoft’s computer.

Linux@lemmy.ml•New Linux Kernel Drama: Torvalds Drops Bcachefs Support After Clash
6·6 months agoAt the very least, it would be far more of a circus, as the follow-up articles would read “LINUX KERNEL CREATOR LINUS TORVALDS MAKES DEVESTATING REPLY TO FOSS DRAMA!”
But yeah, I think shit like that would just make devs want to go work for a company, because at least when they make a shitty closed sourced, exploitive program people are mad at the company, not them, specifically. They don’t have to deal with this shit.

Roots of Pacha is a really nice Stardew Valley inspired farming game with a very unique setting (stone age). Could be worth checking out for you.

I meant it as in he intended to become the Messiah King after kicking the Romans out of Israel, not that he did. XD

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Socialism is the actual teaching of Jesus
11·6 months agohttps://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+16%3A13-20&version=NRSVUE
Matthew 16:13-20 NRSV
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist but others Elijah and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,[a] the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter,[b] and on this rock[c] I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he sternly ordered the disciples not to tell anyone that he was[d] the Messiah.[e]
But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I put you under oath before the living God, tell us if you are the Messiah,[k] the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you,
From now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66 What do you think?” They answered, “He deserves death.” 67 Then they spat in his face and struck him, and some slapped him, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, you Messiah![l] Who is it that struck you?”
From the NSRV, one of the preferred standards of Biblical scholars. A few places where Christ, if not outright says, heavily implies he is the Messiah, which is the reason the Jewish leaders wanted him put to the death.
I do not have access to the full article to give, but Bart Erhman also goes over some of these points in the free point of this article: https://ehrmanblog.org/jesus-claim-to-be-the-messiah/
Of most interest to my point is this bit:
Jesus’ proclamation was all about the coming kingdom of God. He was an apocalypticist who believed that God would soon intervene in the course of history, overthrow the forces of evil, and establish a good (and very real, political) kingdom here on earth. His listeners had to turn to God in preparation for this imminent end.
There is also this summary from Wikipedia regarding a King Messiah, which is the one I believe most Christians believe Christ was laying claim to:
In Jewish eschatology, the Messiah is a future Jewish king from the Davidic line, who is expected to be anointed with holy anointing oil and rule the Jewish people during the Messianic Age and world to come.[1][2][8] The Messiah is often referred to as “King Messiah” (Hebrew: מלך משיח, romanized: melekh mashiach, Jewish Babylonian Aramaic: מַלכָא (הוּא) מְשִיחָא, romanized: malkā (hu) mšiḥā[9]).[10]
The link is here if you would like to see the sources : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messiah_in_Judaism
In general, we can also see in both Jewish and Christian scripture that a Messiah was a figure that would rise up and deliver the Jewish people from their oppressors. Depending on your religion (or lack there of) and theology, the expectations vary. Earlier in Judaism it could be anybody who freed the Jews such as Cyrus.
However, as time went on, the Messiah became a cosmic figure who would not only restore Israel’s independence, but would also destroy God’s enemies, rally the Jewish people from across the world, establish the Kingdom of God here on earth as a real, physical, political entity, and rule like a king as God’s emmisarry here on earth.
There’s nothing about this that isn’t authoritarian, it just so happens to be benevolent.
There is also far, far more to this topic with many different views ans takes to it because both Christianity and Judaism have a stake in it, and neither of these religions are monolithic. Judaism, specifically being absolutely ancient and having transformed significantly since its earliest records while the beliefs itself predate even the earliest written records. So of course, this is not the only lens with which to view it, but this is the most likely role that Jesus Christ was attempting to fill, the claim that got him killed, and the role most Christians believe he will finish when he returns.

Games@lemmy.world•Nexus Mods' new owners promise they won't monetise the site to death as users panic at the whiff of venture capitalEnglish
2·6 months agoHow do we know there was? How, exactly is one to prove that a transaction didn’t take place? Sure, he, the former owner, could say there wasn’t, but that doesn’t mean any more or less than what he already has, which is that he believes the new owners share his vision for the site! And at least he picked two people who, to my understanding, have been around Nexus for awhile!
I’m not saying it’s impossible that Nexus enshittifies, and I understand that it’s been a trend lately, but this, as of this moment right now, feels like senseless panic that ought to be saved for when they actually do something wrong! I’ll join the hate wagon when they start brutally monatizing the site or taking IPOs.

Games@lemmy.world•Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s success caused the dev team to reconsider how it should approach future DLCEnglish
19·7 months agoIn my honest opinion, I could hype it up even more. But to give you an incredibly grounded opinion, it is a lot of fun, especially if you enjoy JRPGs. I find it to be a very well made game, and even a friend of mine who normally is a big FPS nut is absolutely addicted to it, even playing it over the new DOOM title. I would say you’re, in the worst-case scenario, incredibly unlikely to regret trying it at least. The only very clear problem I have with it is that it can be incredibly easy to over-level yourself in it.

21·7 months agoI don’t think that matters. This is likely a decision handed down by upper management. And that’s what makes it depressing; what could’ve continued to be some of the greatest creators of Sci-Fi video games instead have mismanaged their talent and shot both their feet off.

2·8 months agoIf you have a newer NVIDIA, you should be good. It’s a little rough around the edges here and there (steam overlay flickered for a friend, but that was months ago and could well be fixed) , but to my understanding, the worst issues have been solved. And having previously used an RTX 2040, it worke perfectly where it truly matters.
Like others have said, try a dualboot. It can’t hurt.

Kepler, IMHO, is the exception, because they are specifically a coalition of indie devs pooling resources to give other indie devs the best shot of success.
And to the comment above yours: I think any devs who don’t have a board of investors or any obligation to anyone but their fans counts as “indie” in my still-honest opinion.
