Easier to use imo. TrueNAS would be better, but takes more time to learn how to use.

You could but a NAS, or build one and install unraid on it. It should take a day or so of tinkering to get it working, and you could always sync your data to a cloud backup provider.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Static site generator for an idiot who doesn't want to learn a new templating language just to have a blog?English
6·1 year agoI used Hugo for my portfolio site, and it’s great if you like an existing theme, but making one from scratch is a challenge. The documentation is unclear and there’s a chicken and egg problem about how to learn Hugo.
The go templating is OK, I prefer other syntax but it works.

41·2 years agoMy fps tanks, but I’m using an Nvidia card. Max 30fps when I can get 90 on Windows.
Also the Xbox integration for the party system took a long time to fix. Maybe just a Pop_OS issue tho

1·2 years agoIts not that I don’t believe it, rather they are “selling” Linux as if there won’t be any problems, but whoever is making the switch will have to learn about troubleshooting. That’s a good thing, but something that they should be aware of.

41·2 years agoI get that, and I love Linux, it’s just annoying to see people say that they switched with 0 issues and trying to sell it off like people won’t have problems.

27·2 years agoI just switched from W10 to Pop_OS and have had lots of trouble. I’m trying to stick with it but from audio glitches to many games not running unless I find a random CLI arg that someone mentioned on Reddit, to my UI freezing, it’s not been an easy switch.

Most of those are on the to-do list! I definitely like the Google keep style widget but want better UX when typing out bullet lists.
Thanks for the suggestions
I’m going to start developing my own alternative, is there any features that you really need/want?
I was planning on making this self hosted via docker with the option to save to Google drive.

Nope, I’ve tried it before but I prefer the muscle memory of bash/zsh.
I’ll use it on Windows though.
