8·1 day agoI use Teams flatpak to communicate with family and like a week ago got a prompt “would you recommend this to others?”.
I clicked no, and for the reason “Sloppity slop slop slopitty slop” and 3 days later M$ announced they were rolling back Copilot integration in trivial apps. I felt listened to :P

31·4 days agoLook at me. LOOK at me.
There is no such thing as “side loading”. It is installing apps you want on your phone.
I’ve got a newer (5yo) Maytag that has a silent mode that you can choose either with end beep or without. It resets every power outage which is my only gripe.

News@lemmy.world•Kash Patel admits under oath FBI is buying location data on AmericansEnglish
82·6 days agoExactly. Not just that, but apparently it is okay that every other organization in the world knows everything about you except the FBI. The issue isn’t that law enforcement is buying information to get around warrant rules, but that your information is a public commodity in the first place.

News@lemmy.world•Kash Patel admits under oath FBI is buying location data on AmericansEnglish
1812·7 days agoWhy is this news? If data is easily available why wouldn’t they simply pay for it? This wasn’t an "admission’ more than it was a “statement of the obvious”.
If you think this wasn’t obvious you seriously need to look into exactly how much of your information is being accumulated and openly traded about you.
The difference is you have to throw hands with anybody wearing glasses as opposed to someone clearly holding up a device to record you.
You sound like a toddler constantly asking “why?” instead of actually thinking about what it means to have invisible cameras that can go everywhere you can.
Too bad. They’re standing right next to you with those glasses on. Hope you aren’t camera shy when trying to take a piss. See what your genius idea of ‘I’ll just go someplace private’ conveniently ignores is that with these glasses there are no private places anymore.
So you’re okay with being filmed in bathrooms. Got it.
if I want privacy I’ll go somewhere else.
Because they absolutely could not just follow you.

1·10 days agoEvery piece of software that doesn’t come with the default repositories, which in many distros includes the ‘niche’ software of vidcard drivers. Samba network sharing v1, disabled in both Windows and Linux, is a simple double click of the app feature to reenable in Windows. In Linux, you have to change entries in at least 2 files, assuming you can find correct instructions in the first place.

21·10 days agoTBF it does have a glaring lack of automation for way too much of the basics. Even hand holding distros like Mint will have you using the terminal for something windows just does with a double click.
FTR I prefer Linux over Windows but I still lose it every time installation instructions for some app have 4 pages of commands for the CLI instead of just running an installer that automates the BS.

Technology@lemmy.world•Rubenerd: Using Thunderbird for RSSEnglish
4·12 days agoJust started using it. With zero xp posts an article expecting to matter.
I use Thunderbird too, and have so for years. The RSS implementation sucks. It will randomly crap out and autopause all feeds. The data often corrupts rendering the link folder useless and is very difficult to properly purge as the gui process will often fail. You’ll have to look up instructions and delete the folders manually. Very disappointing, but better than nothing.
I’ve been using open source RSS apps from Fdroid and have yet to find one that doesn’t have glaring bugs. I don’t understand why feed reading is so difficult. Probably that it supports so many forms of media but I’m just a clueless scrub that isn’t posting to blogs so what do I know.

it was Skype previously, which is what we all used originally. The conversion was complete. My father still has a Skype icon on his phone because it now opens Teams.
