  • I mean, he can be seen as another Luigi Mangione. The Luigi not of oligarchs but of genocidal people, which, at the end, are the same people (Trump, Thiel, Musk, Netanyahu, etc.). It is, again, a person acting violently about a situation that has many of us disturbed.

Yes, his name happens to be in Spanish; I do not see how that’s damning for other Hispanic people. And I say this as a person that has no opinion about this type of violence (I cannot discern if it’s justified or not), and as someone of mostly Hispanic heritage. I do not know if I support this Rodríguez man, but I can understand his reasons.

  • Thank you, although I’m just a master of none… Yes, I imagine looking for a job with a philosophy degree is limiting. On TikTok, I’ve noticed some recent graduates working on self-made projects (magazines, private classes, etc.). That’s a creative solution that I hope works out for them.

  • I’m sick and tired of this Reddit-ass kind of “advice” meant only for neurotypical white men. Male defaultism is one of many things we should not import here.

Too late… Or maybe it was already like this before we migrated from Reddit. Comments are very black-and-white and tend to favor men over women, STEM over other fields (just read the comments here), global north over global south, etc. It’s obvious who the majority is and how biased the opinions are.

It is funny because Lemmy is the leftiest site I know, and still these problems are invisible.

  • I didn’t graduate in philosophy, but the little I know about it is useful every single day.

I guess monetary success is capricious in philosophy; they all cannot be Chomsky or Žižek (because unfortunately intellectual stardom is reserved for a few by definition in any given field). Also, academic environments are depressingly unfair and are influenced by ridiculous factors more than they should. But is money all there is to life for someone that most likely loves to learn, to ponder, to explore? Answers might vary among them.

  • I love it, but the test would need to ask our preferences about federation and if that’s a priority. In my case, I’m in this instance because it lets me read a lot of other instances (even the infamous triad). I don’t know if we have a certain personality; I just like to lurk diverse communities.

    *Mexican United States.

Also, it’s not about the name but how that name came to be. Mexican United States (Mexico) are called that way because they’re the region around the mexica territory (today part of Mexico City). They’re not ‘stealing’ the name from anyone.

The United States of America (U.S.A.) are called that way because they were the first independent states in America, the continent’s name: a well known fact at the moment. But today, most American countries are independent, so the people from the United States have been rewriting geography and even history saying there are two continents, that there isn’t a continent named America, etc. Sorry, but many countries and thousands of historical documents tell us that America was and is the name of the continent, and that it is not okay to take it for one country alone.

I imagine the outrage this would cause for centuries if France (just to name some country) tried to pull this off. “United Communities of Europe”, “we are the only Europeans 🇨🇵”, “Europe is a country”, “there’s West Europe and East Europe, the Europes, but that’s it”…

I don’t understand why the people here who like TikTok aren’t on a Reddit instead.

Reddit is not as leftist as I’d like it to be. Reddit app is garbage while Sync is awesome. I left in solidarity the day they banned third party apps.

I like the idea of decentralized social media and I trust you tech savvy lemmings about its importance, but I also have a weakness for nice communities and TikTok has/had one.

I hate this joke and I’m going to address it seriously.

The majority of us sleep and wake at similar hours. If someone feels like sleeping only at 2:00 or 3:00 a.m., they are probably not a night person, there might be something wrong (e.g., too much caffeine, major depression). People who naturally feel the need to sleep extremely early or extremely late are rare.

Now, same bell curve logic, most people have a not-too-early and not-to-late natural clock. ‘Early birds’ and ‘night owls’ are also not the norm. The so-called morning people who naturally wake up at 7:00 a.m. or earlier and sleep early too are not only in the minority but also impacted by all the night lights, night life, “important ceremonies are at night”, etc. As students, many cannot go to sleep early because of homework, practices or activities in the dormitories. We are all affected by unrealistic schedules, especially people in demanding fields (e.g. medical field). This is why we have normalized taking stimulants.

Lastly, I need to say it, a lot of gamers think they are night people because they like to stay awake playing videogames. That’s not how circadian clocks work. I understand the quiet and freedom of nighttime, but that’s not necessarily our biological preference. When we are adults, we ought to find what our bodies need and provide it because our health (and future quality of life) depends on it. I’m giving this advice because it’s advice I would’ve liked to hear when I was younger.

Back to the meme, blaming the morning people is, again (we do it in many debates), shifting the blame from capitalism and a culture of “we need to do all the things, at all hours, cities that don’t sleep” to a group of people that’s not the 1%.

  • I disagree. Violence is not the answer, and especially not against people that are living in a way that doesn’t hurt others. If a couple (or polycule) wants to be sexually exclusive, they have the right to do so, and they do not hurt others because it’s not a social imposition for everyone.

Edit: I mean, I understand questioning why we choose it, “deconstructing”, as we now call it, but after that, I think it’s an intimate matter.
