Soo many of us are total fucking idiots. I’ve known people who were proud to have never, ever left their home county (no r, smaller than the state). Education has been extremely watered down and NEVER included anything that wasn’t in someway tied to or implied to involve the u.s. The teeeensy bit of world history is glossed over quickly with dry dates and facts to memorize until that class is finally over.

Higher education for the rich is for socializing and pretending you learned things other than that.
For a lot of the poor, higher education isn’t even possible, many of those poor folk that are rural even scoff at the idea it’s needed or think it’s the devil’s knowledge or some shit. A local, near my current area, said “I don’t believe in science”. …Like, at all??? I was part of a group that split off right then, wasn’t able to question about it. …But, like at all gravity, chemical reactions… nothing?

People are both proud of being and, think you called them something else, now hella angry, ignorant.

Now, they are more worried about being in good christian, republican (white) private schools than funding public education (California, by law, will not allow any textbook that Texas approves for their schools, in use for their public schools. That’s how useless the bible belt education has become). I have now met more than a few children who don’t “see the point in learning to read”. Various ages. And I dont have kids or close young family around. It fucking kills me to hear that shit.

Movies, tv, YouTube, anything mindless is way more approved for discussion in mixed random social gatherings than anything historical, higher arts related, scientific, god forbid global not involving the u.s.! Instantly labeled libruhl, demoncrat, fanatical left… ugh.

Anyway, yeah, it’s hard to get a world/outside view for so many over here, to the point that I think most have nooo idea a view other than a us-ian one even exists. I wish exchange programs were more of a thing and more available to ‘lower class’ folks. Just getting out of the fucking bubble of constant, subconscious propaganda, from everything one encounters, might really help a number of folk.

Sorry, I love learning, reading, cultures, etc., it has hurt my soul all my life to feel this country smothering learning and curiosity! Even seeking it, it has been hard to come by, especially pre-internet. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Eta: I am not sure how I came across, so I want to mention, yes! We should be smart enough to see a lot of this shit, but not only are we too dumb, we are proud of being dumb for some fucking reason. Raised in BFE over religious tiny small town, extremely conservative, family. Learned to read, began questioning all of it, been the opposite side of that once I had access to a library, outside sources of information and reality.

Not many of the people I grew up with there stayed conservative once becoming an adult. Sweeping generalizations used to approve mass murder is not a good idea.

With her particular specialty and the attacks on education, I would put her in the grouping of likely to be targeted. Once that happens, it is probably too late to leave.

As far as going to protests, I’ve seen those pics too and they are truly inspiring to see! I have imagined that all have a support system, though I could be wrong. I’m currently unable to stand or walk for long periods and hoping I am able to fully recover. Until then, Im in a state we moved to as adults, haven’t made any real local friends, don’t have kids or other family in the area, work different hours in a different city than my S.O. We are also in a red county in a red state that posts in our neighborhood sites freely, about being violent to any non-magas. I.e., running into the protesters with lifted trucks, doing drive-bys of their 2a rights, and get cheered on from the others on there. I had to go far from home to one of our big cities to attempt to protest for a little bit just so I could feel safer with a crowd. Luckily I am still able to drive or even that wouldn’t have been possible.

She is speaking up and bringing her expertise to those who can put the information to more strategic use. I will take all the help we can get.

It’s in Tempe, which is a college town and usually a lot more “variety of ideas friendly” area. It’s a big ass state, not gone down the rabbit hole of how gerrymandered we might be, but I’m listed in a town by address that is nowhere near where my “local” library, grocery, etc which is another town.

There is a lot of wild west expanse and geriatric retirement that keeps a red hold, Tempe isn’t far from Phoenix downtown where I went to a fucking awesome Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, The Linda Linda’s concert last week. I was quite impressed at the the number of both old and young punks that showed up and packed the place! Openly anti trump remarks through the show… not too many left early even, despite the traffic… hmmm…

And, this shit was done overnight, who the hell did they think they might get, janitorial staff? Random underpaid security guard? What fucking dickbags man. Random violence is bad, putting people just doing their jobs, regardless of political affiliation, is just really poor form.

I saw the negativity points to your remark, which should generally be “well yeah… it’s the wild red west?!” Thought some of this may shed a light on that response?

I lived there for almost a decade, about a decade and a half ago. It was so run down and dying then. People wouldn’t come see us there that we had known all our lives because it was so dangerous. Pizza places wouldn’t deliver down our street, we would have to walk to the main corner to get delivery. We paid a crack head to watch our house while we were away for a weekend.

I was in disbelief back when I heard about the factories deciding to build there after we had up and left… finally, after barely scraping enough together from living and working there. I wondered how they would fare but didn’t follow up on it then.

I researched and verified everything you said above, and informed some other family on Fb, that was trying to stir the shit. They would hear none of it.

Sure, but he’s unwilling to let others grow and make their own choices in their time. Just because you don’t do something anymore is no reason to ban everyone else from doing it now, let alone criminalize it. He got to be curious and explore who he is, he should be letting others do the same. Exposing this stuff helps show what he is taking away from others even though it was OK when he did it.

I’m thinking, if you got to have fun, minding your own business… not hurting anyone; No matter how much you may have grown or changed and no longer like or approve of doing those activities, you don’t get to be part of a brigade that strips the rights from people who DO choose to and again, aren’t hurting anyone. You don’t get to incite violence against people who are Minding Their Own Fucking Business without the bare minimum of getting exposed for being a fucking hypocritical piece of shit.

My state doesn’t even require one but they send a little paper one every time I update my registration. I imagine something like that could be used? Homeless could use a library or shelter as an address for them?
