Selfhosted@lemmy.world•GitHub a possible inclusion in Australian under 16 "social media" banEnglish

I’ve just started using beets for organizing my collection. It’s relatively easy once you get the hang of it. Ease I suppose differs based on how organised/tagged your collection is currently.
When someone first told me about Studio Ghibli I was told it was “like Japanese Disney films”. Went to watch a Castle in the Sky and quite enjoyed it. Then I watched Grave of the Fireflies. I kept telling myself through out watching it “it’ll get happier soon right?”… Pretty sure I just sat there for like 10 minutes after it ended.
It’s fantastically well done. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to bring myself to watch it again.
No requirement to have your legal name in Signal. Though, I do wish it was possible to set a different name for group chats though. Happy to use my real name with friends and family, but would prefer an alias for group chats.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Deposits should be held by the city. The landlord should be forced to prove they deserve it in a court of law.English
4·9 months agoWell, still plenty of dogdy landlords who take advantage of people who don’t know about that requirement and either take it for themselves or push renters towards “resolving disputes between themselves” and not involving the bond authority at end of lease time.

27·9 months agoIt’s a requirement in Australia for it to be paid to the government bond agency. Typical method of paying it is a cheque payable only to the bond authority. Once you hand back the keys at the end of the lease you can apply directly to the bond agency for it to be refunded to you and the landlord needs to formally object to claim any of the bond.

1·10 months agoHow are you checking the size? Some tools will split file size based on the number of hard links. So a 10GB file may show as 5GB in folder A and the other 5GB in folder B.
Also, if you’re using Docker. Its crucial that your downloads and media directories are listed as a single volume. If it’s two volumes, it’ll copy rather than hard link.
Grayjay had a number of issues recently too. Guessing some changes on YouTube’s side. Recent updates have fixed things.

Android@lemdro.id•GrapheneOS now officially supports Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL | GrapheneOS is a private, secure mobile operating system with Android app compatibility, developed as a non-profit open source projectEnglish
1·11 months agoI’m using the Google Pixel Camera on Graphene OS and don’t believe there’s any difference in quality. It doesn’t require Google Play Services to be installed and you can deny it network access to cut it off completely.

3·11 months agoYes, they don’t work without Google Play Services. Google didn’t implement passkeys in Android, only their own services.
I’ve been using it for several months mostly due to it’s UnifiedPush notifications support and been really happy with it.

Games@lemmy.world•Random Screenshots of my Games #4 - Class of '09English
6·1 year agoIt’s a good game. Just don’t take the content warning at the start lightly. I’ve tried to finish it twice but haven’t been able to get more than a couple of hours in.
It’s a bit similar. However this goes a bit further than I understand those projects do. They’re creating a game like the original. With this decompilation project, if you use the N64 compiler you will get a ROM which is 100% identical to the original.
The ROM in this case is only used for game assets, like maps, models, and textures. All the game logic in native code. This allows is to be easily modified to add in new features without trying to hack it into a 20 year old game/console.

Technology@lemmy.world•Steam announces game recording beta.English
10·1 year agoThe page says it captures game audio only by default. But you can switch it to all audio if UPI want to capture something like external voice chat.
It’s not that it’s closed, it’s more that none of the exiting email protocols support a server which can’t read your email (as it’s all encrypted). They do offer Proton Bridge which you can run locally which will handle all the decryption and local mail clients can talk to that as the would any other mail server.
I don’t know off hand if it supports calendar syncing though.
I did the exact same thing. Wouldn’t like to see it adopted due to accessibility issues. But its a neat trick.
