Wachovia did that shit to me one time and racked up hundreds of dollars of overdraft fees. They didn’t process the charges chronologically, nor did they smallest amount to largest. They charged the largest first and kept going (second largest, third, …). Worst part of it was I asked the teller before the spending spree (financial aid check when I was in college) when the funds would be available. She told me immediately. If I’d have just waited until the next business day for them to actually be available, nothing at all would have overdrafted.

Games@lemmy.world•The first weekly What Are You Playing? thread!English
4·8 months agoJust getting into FF7 Rebirth. Was a huge fan of the original, but these remakes are just so silly it’s kind of hard. And I really don’t like the active combat system in modern FF games, but I’ll get through it.
Always playing a little Rust here and there, can’t help myself.
Was about to resub to RuneScape after a yearlong break but then I saw Mod Jack got canned. Jagex getting darker every year…
I set up motion detector sprinklers in my yard this year for pretty much the same reason. Has worked really well. I definitely forget they are on sometimes and get blasted but worth it otherwise.

1·9 months agoAre there any good alternatives as far as PDF creation goes? Creating fillable forms, not just editing? I have some users I can’t shake from Acrobat Pro.
Gearing up to drop the DOGE, possibly. Caught a ton of messages from the RNC in my organization’s email filter today with a survey asking if people still support DOGE. Sounds like a narrative change, but who knows could just be a dumb newsletter.

You can use Claude through ddg if you were unaware. Not as private as self hosting, but better than giving up your phone number. https://duck.ai/

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Maybe we should have this conversation in person so it can be a fist fight.
11·1 year agoUnpopular opinion: many terminally online people greatly overestimate how well they communicate over email/chat, and some of them are in this thread
Could be carved from a branch. Would be in character.
That’s what I’ve read as well. The real kicker is Rust runs better for me on Linux. I’m pretty sure Facepunch heavily funded EAC’s development too. Garry’s kind of a bitter cunt about playing on Linux for whatever reason.
I am conflicted about this one. I really miss playing Rust (uses EAC)… wish there was a way to toggle the kernel level anticheat when I wanted to play.
Definitely was in the rural, redneck school I went to.

Technology@lemmy.world•The 7 Prominent Theories Explaining the Mystery Drones - DecryptEnglish
151·1 year agoThe list is also missing the Red Cell theory, which could be a sort of penetration test contracted by the US government. I think that’s distinctly different than a psy-op or government conspiracy. Penetration testing of military bases and other core infrastructure makes complete sense combined with the hysteria theory, where now people are reporting normal flight traffic out of paranoia.

Technology@lemmy.world•HowStuffWorks founder Marshall Brain sent final email before sudden deathEnglish
226·1 year agoI didn’t know Marshall, however I worked for one of the engineering departments at NCSU, and I will state it was the most toxic, hostile work environment I’ve ever been part of. Direct colleagues were mostly great despite being underpaid and overworked.
The professors there have a culture where they feel and act like they are celebrities. I knew of three instances where professors had affairs with their students, divorced their spouses, married said students, and repeated the process over again a few years later. All “distinguished” professors too. Even though I was a sysadmin, one assigned me to transcribe a recording of some lecture he was giving while clearly in a bathtub having something sexual done to him just as a power trip. I reported it, nothing was done, and I received a poor performance evaluation that year despite very good ones years prior. Absolute horrible place to work.

A combination of saving money and keeping people out of the bathroom.
